Examined planes
Both the integral as well as the critical plane based multiaxial methods necessitate to evaluate stress or strain state on specific planes. There are currently four concepts in PragTic used for definition, which planes will be examined. The parameter Number of scanned planes required in the Calculation Methods menu has different meaning in each option. The choices are:
* Bannantine-Socie concept – the number of scanned planes specified gives how many planes will be examined at each inclination from the normal line to the surface, i.e. the total number of examined planes is twice this value;
* globe analogy concept (this is the only option available for integral methods) – the number of scanned planes specified says how many planes will be examined along the equator (i.e. at 90 degrees from the normal line to the surface), not the total number of all examined planes;
* random concept – the number of scanned planes specified reports on how many different randomly set directions will be examined;
* N only concept – the number of scanned planes specified gives how many planes will be examined
